Free Tour Descripción

In this interesting daytime Free Tour, we will get to know the Historic Center of the capital in a circular tour of about 2 hours. We will start the tour from one of the most visited squares on the Island, the only one with a monument to Los Divinos in Spain, Plaza Van Dale.

From Plaza Vandale, we will go to the main street, Calle O’Daly, in memory of one relevant Irish historical figure. We will go inside Iglesia de El Salvador, where we can see many Flemish pieces of art from the 16th century. From Plaza de España, we will explain as well the front of the Ayuntamiento, first council formed in a democratic way, by popular suffrage, in the whole Spain. Also, one of the three places in the whole country where electricity was established.

From Calle O’Daly, we will go to Calle Anselmo Pérez de Brito, which also honours a very relevant figure of our history. We will visit the most famous balconies in the Canary Islands.
We will continue our path admiring the colonial style houses with windows and balconies that have mudejar style latticework. We will reach La Cruz del Tercero that reminds us of the island conquest. We will go up to Plaza de la Alameda where we can see the famous Barco de la Virgen and talk about our main five-yearly celebrations: La Bajada de la Virgen. The visit ends up in the Castillo de Santa Catalina de Alejandría, a small fortress close to the sea, that was finalised at the end of the 17th century, to protect the city from the attacks of the corsairs.
