Tour Description
Towards the Heart of La Palma
Discover the heart of La Palma is possible through a route that you can not miss if you are a nature lover: La Caldera de Taburiente. It is characterized for being one of the largest erosion craters in the world with a diameter of approximately 8 kilometers and up to 2,000 m. of unevenness, for showing geological formations of high interest and for the great variety of species of flora and fauna that have developed.
It was declared a National Park in 1954 and is one of the main attractions of the island, indescribable through photographs. You have to experience it in person.
From the Mirador de Los Brecitos (1,040 m. altitude), the starting point of this hike of spectacular beauty in La Palma, we contemplate how the Canary pine forest protects and shelters the Caldera and enjoy wonderful views towards the interior of the National Park and towards the Pico Bejenado.
The PR LP 13 trail will take us to the heart of the lush National Park of La Caldera de Taburiente through wooden bridges, ravines with permanent water courses, streams and waterfalls.
In the Taburiente River, in the camping area, you can enjoy a dip in its cool and crystal clear waters. We continue along a path that puts our legs to the test, but that will compensate us with its beautiful views, always keeping in mind the majestic Roque Idafe, sacred symbol for the aborigines.
We will wind through the Barranco de Taburiente ravine until we reach another must-see place, La Cascada de Colores, a representative icon of the island where ocher, green and reddish tones are magically mixed to give us an idyllic place.
Finally, we will take the natural exit of the Barranco de Las Angustias, paying special attention to the shape of the rocks found here.
